Thomas Rotherham College

Project Overview

Thomas Rotherham College, originally established in 1483 and later reformed as a Sixth Form College in 1967, is housed in a Grade II listed building initially constructed to train ministers for congregational churches.

Mobile CAD Surveying Solutions was commissioned to conduct a measured building survey of the internal floor plans and a topographical survey extending to the site boundary.

Challenges Faced

The survey needed to be completed during the summer holidays to
ensure the absence of students on campus, limiting the available
time for data collection. The project also faced a tight deadline due
to strict deliverables requiring efficient time management and rapid
data processing.

The initial scope, which focused on a single building, was expanded
to encompass the entire complex without extending the project
timeline, this resulted in need to increase resources both on-site
and in the drawing office.

Certain areas of the college were locked and unavailable for survey,
complicating the data collection process.

The Outcome

MobCAD Surveying Solutions successfully managed the complexities of the Thomas Rotherham College survey, delivering precise and comprehensive data despite the challenges of an expanded scope, tight deadlines, and access restrictions.

The project underscores the importance of flexibility, advanced technology, and close client collaboration in delivering high-quality surveying services within demanding timeframes.

Enhanced Understanding

The pre-survey walk-through allowed the team to gain a clear understanding of the site, though it also led to a substantial increase in the project’s scope.

Client Collaboration

Close collaboration with the client enabled effective prioritization of deliverables, ensuring that critical information was provided on time.

Resource Flexibility

The ability to quickly divert additional resources allowed the project to accommodate the expanded scope without compromising the original timeline.
