Gilling Castle
Project Overview
Gilling Castle, a Grade I listed building with origins as a 14th century fortified manor house, underwent significant remodelling in the 18th century under Viscount Fairfax of Emley, who added wings enclosing the front court. In the 20th century, the property served as a pre-school for Ampleforth College until the school’s closure in 2018.
Mobile CAD Surveying Solutions was commissioned to conduct a detailed measured building survey to support the specialist restoration of the property. The project aims to transform Gilling Castle into a luxury retirement resort, celebrating its rich history.
Challenges Faced
Surveying a large, Grade I listed property required careful planning
and execution to capture the intricate details without compromising
the building’s structural integrity.
The internal elevations featured complex detailing that demanded
high-precision equipment, such as the RTC 360, to ensure accurate
documentation.
