Doncaster Dome
Project Overview
Doncaster Dome Leisure Centre, an iconic multi-use facility in Doncaster, was officially declared ‘finished’ in August 1989 and inaugurated by Diana, Princess of Wales, on 26 November 1989. The venue features a diverse range of amenities, including a water park, ice skating rink, fitness centre, play zone, conference centre, bar, cycle hub, and concert hall. Mobile CAD collaborated with Doncaster Culture and Leisure Trust (DCLT) to conduct a Fully Measured Survey of the entire facility.
Challenges Faced
The centre stayed open during the survey. We worked outside of regular hours to prevent any disruption to normal operations. This meant we needed careful planning and adaptable scheduling to meet the survey’s needs.
Surveying the ice skating rink and pools presented unique challenges due to varying humidity and temperature levels. These conditions, coupled with the need to access water and ice areas, required careful consideration of survey station points.
The active use of the venue’s amenities limited access to certain areas, requiring detailed coordination and split shifts among the survey team to ensure all necessary data was captured.
The Outcome
MobCAD successful execution of the Doncaster Dome Leisure Centre survey demonstrates their ability to deliver precise and reliable surveying services under challenging conditions.
The strategic use of advanced technology and effective project management allowed the team to meet the unique demands of this complex project, providing DCLT with the detailed data necessary for the ongoing maintenance and future development of the facility.
