Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa

Project Overview

The Devonshire Arms, a historic hotel built in the 17th century, became part of the Bolton Abbey Estate in 1753 under the ownership of the 4th Duke of Devonshire. In 1981, the hotel underwent a significant refurbishment, adding new bedrooms under the supervision of Her Grace the Dowager Duchess of Devonshire. Mobile CAD Surveying Solutions was commissioned to perform a comprehensive measured building survey of the hotel, including its individual rooms, spa, restaurant, and surrounding grounds.

Challenges Faced

The hotel remained fully operational during the survey, requiring
careful coordination with the housekeeping team and management
to gain access to occupied guest rooms across multiple dates.

To minimise any disruptions to both staff and guests, the survey
team worked split shifts, ensuring the survey process was as
unobtrusive as possible.

The survey required flexibility in scheduling, with return visits
necessary to access all areas, including those that were initially
unavailable.

The Outcome

MobCAD Surveying Solutions successfully navigated the complexities of surveying a historic and operational hotel with minimal disruption to its guests and staff.
Through the strategic use of advanced technology and careful project management, the team delivered accurate and comprehensive survey data, supporting the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa in its ongoing operations and future planning needs.

Enhanced Survey Accuracy

The use of RTC 360 and Total Station technologies allowed the team to achieve the high accuracy required for this historic site, despite the access and size constraints.

Expedited Project Completion

Deploying multiple team members and working flexible hours enabled the project to be completed swiftly, reducing the impact on hotel operations.

Successful Coordination

Effective communication and planning ensured that the survey was conducted with minimal disruption, providing the Devonshire Arms Hotel & Spa with detailed and reliable data for future use.
