Fabric Church, Ardwick Barracks
Project Overview
Fabric Church, established by The Diocese of Manchester, has found its new, permanent location in the historically significant Ardwick Barracks, just a mile from Manchester city centre. The barracks, built in 1886, have a rich military history, serving various roles from housing the Manchester Regiment during World War I to being a detention centre during World War II. From 1967 to 2018, the barracks were the headquarters for successive regiments and companies. Mobile CAD Surveying Solutions was commissioned earlier this year to perform a comprehensive aerial survey of the roof using drones and conduct a detailed internal survey with laser scanning technology.
Challenges Faced
The initial quote specification was revised, requiring adjustments in
the survey approach.
Certain areas of the building were difficult to survey due to line-of sight
issues, impacting the data collection process.
The Outcome
Mobile CAD Surveying Solutions successfully executed a complex survey for Fabric Church, overcoming challenges related to specification changes and inaccessible areas.
The project highlights the effectiveness of integrating various technologies and platforms to deliver comprehensive and accurate survey data.
Effective Technology Integration
The combination of drone technology for roof surveying and NAVVIS for internal scanning allowed for a thorough and accurate survey despite the initial specification changes and access difficulties.
Enhanced Data Coordination
The shared platform enabled seamless integration of photographic and point cloud data, improving the accuracy and usability of the survey information.
